DLT Notes

DLT4000
The DLT 4000 micro code levels between 25 and 60 have a problem with the read position/write tape mark SCSI commands. The release notes for the level 50 release claim that this problem is fixed. This is not correct. The release of the micro code that works correctly is level 60. SAM-FS has been changed to work around this problem no matter what micro code level you are running.

DLT2000
For SAM-FS to use a DLT 2000 tape drive, the drive must be running a version of firmware that supports returning the capacity left on the tape currently mounted.

In order to determine if your DLT 2000 supports this feature, we have put together a tar file with the source and compiled binary to a C program that will function the drive and report the results.

You need to uncompress and un-tar the downloaded file, then run the getver program as root to determine if your DLT has the correct firmware level. If you have a C compiler, you can compile the source supplied in the tar file and execute that program instead. We have only tested it using Sun's 3.0.1 C compiler.

See the comments section at the beginning of the getver.c program for more details.
